Five College Learning in Retirement
Come for the Classes, Stay for the Friends

Five College Learning in Retirement (5CLIR) is an organization that attracts and connects those who have maintained a lifelong passion for learning. Founded in 1988, and sponsored by Five Colleges, Incorporated, 5CLIR serves the Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts with classes that expand horizons and engage participation. With the advent of Zoom classes, we can now invite anyone from anywhere to partake. 5CLIR is also an affiliate of the Road Scholar Institute Network.

Our members are a group of intellectually curious individuals who want to pursue new fields of interest or to revisit interests too long neglected. We are characterized by a willingness to share the knowledge and insights we have gained over lifetimes.

Peer-led seminars and workshops are the core activities of 5CLIR and are designed to immerse the active learner.   In addition, our Extracurricular Programs present opportunities for our members to share personal activities and interests.  Great Decisions, a Foreign Policy Association program, provides a forum open to the public to discuss pressing foreign policy issues with national experts.

The purpose of this page is to illustrate a number of ways to direct the visitors to various parts of the site:

  • Using the primary menu in the header
  • Using buttons in a cover block
  • Using links in the text in the main content
  • Using the footer menu

There are others (Astra has a lot of menu options, for example), but they would be more useful on second-level cornerstone pages.

In design, this page is closest to Tyll’s Example 2 in this document. In execution, many of the linked pages are far from ready for prime time.
